The Journey of Reflection

Each step forward is not just a move toward your destination, but a mark of growth, resilience, and the quiet proof that you are becoming who you were meant to be

Well it has been quite a long time since I wrote on the blog. The last 3 years have been full of change, despression, discovery, and growth. I have moved from the east coast (New York) back to the west coast (Oakland) and it was the change that I didn't know I needed so badly. I think that a lot of the time we get complacent in our routines. You find yourself just going through the motions and as the struggles mount, we push through instead of making the change that will lead us to greener pastures. Change is hard and it takes a lot to commit.

I loved my life in New York/New Jersey. I had a great group of friends, somewhat steady social life, travel was convenient but after the pandemic I was struggling. My roommates had moved out and I was too stubborn to downsize and financially I was barely making it. At the height of BLM I was struggling with depression because turning on the new was too much. Here I was trying to reconcile living in a country that actively hates me for the color of my skin with the intersection of being part of a community that rejects me because of my sexual orientation.

All in all the journey to self love, growth, and living a productive creative lifestyle has been a long and arduous one. It took me a long time to call myself a writer and while I am not published yet, I have completed the rough draft of my fantasy novel that has been 12 years in the making. These past years have influenced my craft and inspired my story. The main character faces adversity and self reflection, the themes of chosen family are threaded throughout the story and growth is a major theme for all the characters. We have to be able to self reflect and see not only our accomplishments but our faults along the way. That self reflection is how we better ourselves and grow.

The return to this blog serves as a mean for me to share my life and my accomplishments and reflect on the path behind me leading to the journey ahead. I hope that you will come along and share in what is on the horizon.
